Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Third molars are commonly referred to as wisdom teeth and are usually the last teeth to develop. They are located at the back of the mouth and generally develop between the ages of 15 and 25.

There are various reasons your dentist or doctor has referred you to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for the removal or your wisdom teeth, including decay, jaw crowding, impaction or more. Dr Chahoud is an experienced Surgeon who can remove the problematic teeth with the highest level of skill and expertise.

Wisdom tooth extraction is a common procedure with very little  adverse effects, if performed by a experienced and qualified practitioner.  Dr Chahoud has 35 years of clinical experience in dentistry and medicine. At your initial consultation, he will assess your situation and level of impaction or difficulty and outline a treatment plan taking any options available to you into consideration.

Preparing for Surgery

Once your treatment plan has been agreed on, you will be directed to one of our patient coordinators who will work with you to find the best possible time and hospital to suit your circumstances.

If a general anaesthetic (asleep in hospital) is not required, we will schedule your local anaesthetic appointment in our clinic and provide you with instructions before your return.

For patients requiring general anaesthetic, our staff will coordinate the booking with the hospital of choice and provide you will all the necessary information you will need for your upcoming surgery. This information will include your fasting and admission document, anaesthetist information, quotes and before and after surgery information. Please contact our experienced staff  with and any questions or concerns that you may have.

General anaesthetic patients who are having wisdom teeth removed should prepare to be in hospital for 5-6 hours and will need to be taken home by a responsible adult. The hospital will not allow you to leave by taxi or Uber.
