Patients who are well prepared for surgery usually have a quick and uncomplicated recovery. A nutrient rich, soft food diet is a necessary part of your post operative healing and we have prepared some recommendations below.
Please ensure you do not eat or drink anything hot on the day of surgery.
- Hearty soups ( cream of asparagus, pumpkin, minestrone )
- Fresh cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots
- Eggs, scrambled, soft boiled, egg salads
- Pasta (plain or with sauce), tortellini, ravioli
- Rice, risotto
- Fish (steamed or grilled)
- Chicken (shredded)
- Oatmeal
- Tofu
- Juices ( cranberry, apple, grape )
- Herbal Tea
- Yogurt ( soft or frozen )
- Pudding/Custard
- Soft or stewed fruits ( banana, papaya, berries, canned peaches or pears)
- Ice cream and milkshakes
- Fruit smoothies/protein shakes
Please avoid the following foods for the first week following surgery:
- Foods that are difficult to chew ( steak, deli meats)
- Popcorn, pretzels, potato chips
- Crusty breads, bagels, cookies
- Alcoholic beverages
