Recommended Food List Following Oral Surgery

Patients who are well prepared for surgery usually have a quick and uncomplicated recovery.  A nutrient rich, soft food diet is a necessary part of your post operative healing and we have prepared some recommendations below.

 

Please ensure you do not eat or drink anything hot on the day of surgery.

 

  • Hearty soups ( cream of asparagus, pumpkin, minestrone )
  • Fresh cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots
  • Eggs, scrambled, soft boiled, egg salads
  • Pasta (plain or with sauce), tortellini, ravioli
  • Rice, risotto
  • Fish (steamed or grilled)
  • Chicken (shredded)
  • Oatmeal
  • Tofu
  • Juices ( cranberry, apple, grape )
  • Herbal Tea
  • Yogurt ( soft or frozen )
  • Pudding/Custard
  • Soft or stewed fruits ( banana, papaya, berries, canned peaches or pears)
  • Ice cream and milkshakes
  • Fruit smoothies/protein shakes

 

Please avoid the following foods for the first week following surgery:

 

  • Foods that are difficult to chew ( steak,  deli meats)
  • Popcorn, pretzels, potato chips
  • Crusty breads, bagels, cookies
  • Alcoholic beverages
