On some occasions, when the teeth do not meet correctly and there is an under or overbite, surgery is required to realign the jaws. This will then achieve a permanent functional and cosmetically pleasing result. In most cases, patients will require orthodontic treatment (braces) 12 months prior to surgery to ensure their teeth meet correctly when the operation is performed. The procedure may involve the upper or lower jaw and occasionally both jaws and a 3D computer analysis is often employed to make the final assessment.
